In the project " Automated network system for audiovisual collections via standardised film identifiers" (AV-EFI), film-holding institutes are working together with infrastructure providers to establish a central PID-based interconnection system. The networking of metadata from different sources is a general goal, which is now to be established with the project in the area of audiovisual collections. The establishment of such a network system not only addresses film and media studies, but also provides interdisciplinary humanities and cultural studies with new access to the cultural heritage of our society.

GWDG’s Role in the project

The GWDG is involved in all work packages and is responsible for setting up and operating the technical infrastructure as part of work package three. The GWDG also develops the middle layer software according to requirements from the other work packages, in particular UI development.

(Expected) Results

The network system to be developed will first be designed and initially set up in its entirety, both technically and organisationally. By the end of the project, it should have been developed to such an extent that it is already functioning sensibly and there will be a binding perspective for further development and sustainable operation based on the use cases already described and other use cases, requirements analyses and activities of all partners. The technical centrepiece of the network system, the PID system with the basic services, will already be in permanently available productive operation.
